The Reluctant Salesperson

Often people get into sales without really meaning too. They find themselves in a marketing or customer service position and are then expected to either contact existing customers for new business opportunities or upsell and cross-sell.

If you've always seen yourself in a "helping" position, it can be difficult to think about selling. Some people see it as a betrayal - "I'm here to help the customers" without seeing that helping sometimes involves letting others know the options available and showing them how these options can be the best solutions.

Very few people start out wanting to sell for a living... but it's a good living. People who can actively contribute to a company's bottom line will find themselves more highly valued.

Don't be afraid of sales. Few people are born salespeople. The rest of us simply learned the correct skill set to be successful.
